Dance

Anoush Armenian Dance ** The Colorado Folk Arts Council

The Anoush Armenian Dancers will share their rich Armenian heritage through traditional Armenian village dances. With very colorful and beautiful native dress, they will give a brief history of Armenia and describe each of dances. With audience participation they can teach an original Armenian line dance. Eight dances will be performed for a 35-40 minutes assembly.

Aztec Dance

The Aztec Dance is based around warriors’ dances. History tells us that the Aztecs recognized and paid tribute to the natural forces of the universe. Through traditional dances, wearing special colorful native dress, you will be presented dances that teach the spiritual and traditional aspects of the ancient Mexican culture.

Ballet Folklorico Tesoro de Colorado** Pablo Martinez

Ballet Folklorico Tesoro de Colorado is a traditional Mexican folklorico performing the many dances of Mexico. They are based in Aurora with children and adult members. They also perform in the northern regions of Mexico.

Cairo-Cadiz-Kona: Dances of Three Lands ** Shireen

This multicultural dance show takes you to three different places: a stop in Cairo for Middle Eastern dances, then on to Cadiz for the Spanish flamenco with the final destination, Kona, and the dances of the Hawaiian Islands. Each program features two dance professionals with apparel changes. The background and historical cultural perspective of each dance is presented.

Calico and Boots ** The Colorado Folk Arts Council

The Calico & Boots American Folk and Square Dance Performance Team has been showcasing traditional American dance in all its variety for over 60 years.  This lively, exciting group has performed at community fairs, conventions, schools, senior centers, and private parties, and has represented the United states at national and international dance festivals.  Calico & Boots is perhaps best known for its traditional Western squares with impressive aerial figures.  Performances may also include Appalachian traditional clogging, New England contras, quadrilles, and couple dances.

Capoeira - Dance Martial Arts from Brazil ** Gaviao

This dance with music was originally done as martial arts by the slaves in Brazil. It is danced to the instruments of Brazil, the bidirimbau and bandaeiro. The performance is done in uniform, all white with colorful cords showing rank.. A question and answer period follows the performance.

Classical Dances of India ** Aeolian Art & Music Center

In this performance, Kakali Chakraborty, the dance instructor, will be depicting the various styles of Indian classical dance steps. She will be then accompanied by her students. Authentic native dress is part of this colorful performance.

Language of Dance ** Deborah Romero

Ms. Romero focuses on the dance, music, instruments, and history of Spain, Mexico, and the Southwest United States to illustrate how cultures borrow from each other and contribute to each other through the arts. In a colorful visual setting this program illustrates how cultures influence each other over the centuries.

Matachinas from Mexico ** Jose Flores

The Danza Matachina Tlaxcalteca Guadalupana are traditional dancers from Mexico. They perform the ancient dances of their ancestors. These indios have survived through the Conquistadors and the many revolutions in Mexico. Take a look back in history to the pre-Columbian dances and costuming of an ancient people. Their traditional native clothing and the dances are clarified and explained.

Moo Lan Chu’an ** Camelia Kong

Moo Lan Chu’an is a slow motion form of Chinese martial arts with its versions of Bare Hand, Fan, and Sword. The dances have graceful and rhythmic movements and are synchronized with music. Each dance is introduced by the Shanghai born dancer.

Old Time American Dancing ** Richard Myers & Vicky Bunsen

Students experience the historic community dances that have been the backbone of social life throughout the settlement of the United States. Caller Myers teaches and leads any size group in a variety of dances, including reels, circle and square dances, and explains the historical context as he calls. Live old-time string band music (fiddle, banjo, guitar, bass) is provided.

One World Folk Dancers ** Beverly Elinoff

With a mix of colorful native dress, ethnic dances from many places (Romania, Serbia, Turkey, Bulgaria, Israel, Greece, and others) are performed. Watching this dance group is a very different experience and enjoyable for children and adults alike. All music and dance is authentic and presented as it would be done by the local village people in the town square. Audience participation can be included if desired.

Tales & Rhythms of the Middle East ** Ziva Dunya

Ziva Dunya (bright world) is a troupe of musicians, storytellers, and dancers. They paint a vivid picture of the rhythms, traditions, and wisdom tales of the rich Middle Eastern culture through stories, poetry, music, and dance. It is both entertaining and educational. The famous “snake dance” is but one of the dances performed.

Vanzantes de los Americas ** Stephanie Herrera

The “Dances of the Americas” focus is on Mexico and folklorico dancing from nine (9) different states of Mexico. The group will bring a minimum of 10 dancers up to 30 dancers in full native dress with music. Enjoy the sounds and sights as the group includes Salsa, Manga and Cumbas as dances. Hip Hop is available also!
